Summer!

This year didn’t end the way we expected, but summer break is finally here! I hope everyone has a great summer and can’t wait to see you next year!

Some things students can do over the summer:

Reading

Read, read and read some more. That can be the child reading to you or someone reading to them.

Practice sight words.

There is an Orton Gillingham Card Deck App that is free and students can practice their sounds.

Below is a link for the Parents’ Read-At-Home Plan for Student Success. This guide includes activities to help your child learn phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

Math

I am available on Zoom each week, so if your child is struggling with a concept, needs additional work, or just wants to chat, I would love to see them on Zoom! If you do not already have the Zoom ID and Password, please fill out the following Zoom Link and I will send you one.

All Reading Classes

This week I really want to work on fluency with the students. Fluency is the ability to read smoothly and automatically with accuracy, expression, rate and attention to punctuation. We will not worry about the attention to punctuation this week. We will be focusing on accuracy, expression and the rate of reading (not too fast and not too slow). This may take the students more than a week to complete, but that is fine.

Kindergarten Reading

Students can read the following Letter Sounds to work on fluency. It should not take them more than 20 seconds to read the entire page. If it does, continue to read them each day until mastered. Remember a breve above the letter makes the vowel say its short sound.

Once students master the letter sound sheet(can read sheet in less than 20 seconds), they can move on to the Real Words sheet. This sheet should also not take more than 20 seconds.

Once real words sheet is mastered (can read sheet in less than 20 seconds), students can then move on to Phrases. This should take no more than 60 seconds to complete the sheet.
